Why is everyone against leasing?

Main Post:

So I work remote but my girlfriend works in-person and we need a car. We live in New Jersey where you don't need to really drive far for anything. We are looking for a smaller compact car. We thought of leasing as we wouldn't use the car much but everyone has told not to do it. People have said you be wasting your money, that it is expensive to put a down payment, you lose all the money in the end, etc etc. I have never bought a car before so this is all new to me. For context I make around 70k a year and am saving for a down payment now but am unsure how much I should put down leasing or not.

Top Comment: Because people don’t understand the concept, that’s why.

Does anyone know of any good lease deals this month!? September 2024??? Please help! GM is crazy and I refuse to pay 550 for a freaking blazer lease

Main Post:

I’m really struggling to find a good leasing option, with no money down, I’ve been leasing with Chevy for a very long time and this year has been the biggest increase I have yet to experience. I currently have a payment of 380 for a 2023 blazer, the 2025 is close to $600. No thank you. I would not pay that for a blazer but thank you anyway Chevy

Anyways I really would like to know if anybody has any suggestions or knowledge on any current lease deals that are bomb!!! I need an suv and I am open to all make and models

Thank you

Top Comment: Truck leases are pretty good right now.

Help a novice lease a car (best leases for September 2024)

Main Post:

Hello all. We’re going to lease something for my wife and we’re looking for best bang for buck as we just bought a house and need to be conscious of all that. Ideally we’d put less than $3500 down and 10,000 miles should be enough. She likes things like Mazda CX30 and Honda HRV but prices jump a lot when factoring in fees. Does anyone have a good suggestion what would be good to consider?

Are lease deals legit?

Main Post:

I’m trying get into a decent ev lease. So many manufacturers advertise payments in the low $200s with a few k down for 2 years. I’ve talked to 5 dealers at this point and every one of them has come in at double or over. It’s on cars that aren’t scarce, the buy sheets reflect the ev credit, and it’s not due to my credit. What am I missing?

Edit: Maybe I’m having a grouchy old man moment. This is admittedly my first time leasing. But I figured I should still be looking at it as an out the door cash price like the dozen or so cars I’ve purchased in my life. That’s never resulted in 2x my expected payment. Live and learn, but more transparency would be nice.

ELI5: How do car leases work?

Main Post:

How do car leases work?

Like why do they exist? How do dealers make money on them?

Top Comment: To your question about why dealers like them: it gives them an opportunity to sell you another car in 2-3 years, and also to sell your leased car.
